Pancake Breakfast & Business Expo on March 11

The community can mark their calendars for two upcoming events!

Montague-Whitehall Rotary invites the public to their popular Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 11 from 7:30am – 12:00pm. Get the word out to bring the family to the Whitehall HS Cafeteria located at 3100 White Lake Drive for this delightful meal and good conversation. Cost is $6 for adults & $3 for kids.

On that same day at the High School, the White Lake Chamber of Commerce invites the public from 8:00am – 12:30pm for the free Business Expo. This is a perfect opportunity to get a sneak-peak at more than 50 businesses showcasing their products and services.

My Town: Back To The Bricks Tour hits White Lake June 13

WHITEHALL, Mich.---Downtown Whitehall will be shut down this Saturday, June 13 as  Back To The Bricks comes to town.

The traveling show takes vehicle enthusiasts along the Lake Michigan shoreline.  This is the first year the event is stopping in Whitehall.   Approximately 150 vehicles are expected to be on display.

Colby Street will be shut down from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the event.  Organizers expect participants will spend the night in Whitehall, boosting the area’s shopping, dining and lodging industries.    

Overnight stops in Battle Creek, Manistee, Boyne City and West Branch are also on the schedule for this year’s tour.  Back to the Bricks will also include daytime visits to Frankfort and Tawas City before wrapping up June 16 in Flint, where the Back to the Bricks Car Cruise will take place Aug. 15.

Business competition in California results in job certifications for tech students

On May 6, 2015, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) students Xavier Baron (Oakridge), Matthew Visger (Montague) and Jailon Jamison (Fruitport) traveled to Anaheim, California to compete with the brightest and most skilled computer whizzes in the nation.

The three Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC) students qualified by earning top spots at the state-level Business Professionals of America (BPA) Leadership Conference. Though the teens didn’t place in the top ten this year, they enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to visit the West Coast including a visit to Disneyland. While there, Xavier earned a Security Fundamentals and a Networking Fundamentals certification. Matthew also earned his Networking Fundamentals certification. These certifications will allow them to bypass entry-level classes and open the door to places of employment.

Young Professionals sought for Future 15 Award

Nominations are currently being sought for the Third Annual “Future 15” awards program in Muskegon, MI. This program recognizes 15 outstanding, up and coming young professionals making a difference in the Muskegon Lakeshore region. Nomination forms are available on line at www.surveymonkey.com/s/2015future15 or at the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce office.

The nomination criteria is as follows: Business, Non-Profit, Government or Service-oriented professionals who are under 40 years of age as of December 31, 2015 are eligible for recognition and those recognized must live or work in Muskegon County. Recipients are eligible every three years to be part of the Future 15 award.

The first two years of this program produced more than 100 young professionals’ nominations. “It is important that these young professionals be recognized by their community for their leadership and innovation,” said Cindy Larsen, President of the Muskegon Lake shore Chamber of Commerce.

Applications for the 2015 Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship Program are now being accepted at the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce. The scholarships, offered through the Lakeshore ATHENA Awards Program, a collaboration of The Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce, and the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, assist women in reaching their full potential through financial support for training programs and education.

My Town: 'Battle of the Buildings' underway in West Michigan

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.— A ‘Battle of the Buildings’ is underway in West Michigan, and the winner gets to keep more of their money.

The U.S. Green Building Council of West Michigan says more than 14 Grand Rapids area businesses have signed up for the competition to reduce energy usage.  Participants include Steelcase and Spectrum Health, JSJ Corporation in Grand Haven; Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Steelcase in Kentwood; The Grand Rapids Art Museum; Kent Intermediate School District; Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park; Aquinas College; Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo; the Muskegon County Hall of Justice and Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming.
