A lot of people figure that employees really don’t go out of the way to do anything extra any more but Linda Falkowski who works for Consumers Energy in Muskegon, Mi has proven them wrong. Linda is a field representative for the company and as such, comes in contact with numerous customers. Because of her work ethics, Linda has been given the Gatekeeper of the Year award from the State of Michigan.

The observant and prompt action on Linda’s part resulted in providing a comprehensive scope of services to a Muskegon senior citizen who had significant needs. “Linda embodies the kind of caring and compassionate attitude we all strive to have,” said Amy Walt, executive director of customer operations for Consumers Energy. “It is further proof of her dedication to note this was just one of the numerous referrals Linda has made throughout her career. Relatives of this senior citizen shared that Linda’s actions provided much-needed assistance that could well have saved her life. We commend her efforts and attitude.”

While visiting a customer’s home to discuss an outstanding energy bill, Linda noted the individual came to the door in various states of dress and had a bleeding wound on her leg. This customer lived alone, seemed very confused and had difficulty carrying on a conversation. Linda submitted a Gatekeeper referral through Consumers Energy. Adult Protective Services was contacted and now this lady lives in an assisted living facility and is receiving excellent care.

Through this program, Consumers Energy employees have referred more than 6200 older adults to the Gatekeeper program.
