MONTAGUE, Mich. (WZZM) -- Firefighters say they are not sure what caused the blaze that damaged a northern Muskegon County metal business Thursday night,

Crews got the call to Montague Metal Products, 4101 W. Fruitvale Rd., shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.

Montague Fire District Chief Ron Anderson says the fire heavily damaged the north side of the 80' by 100' building, and caused the roof to cave in. He says the south side of the building sustained mostly heat and smoke damage.

Units from Montague, White Lake, Blue Lake, Dalton, Muskegon Twp., North Muskegon, and Oceana County's Shelby Twp. were among those called to the scene. Chief Anderson says the large response was due to the need for manpower and water assistance. He says the nearest hydrant was at least 1.5 miles from the building.

Montague Metal Products makes weather vanes, address plaques and custom metal pieces for homes.
