White Lake Municipal Marina adds free dock space

WHITEHALL, Mich.—The White Lake Municipal Marina has added another dock.

According to the marina’s Facebook page, the dingy dock is available for free day docking for access to Goodrich Park and downtown Whitehall.

White Lake Municipal Marina offers 80 slips for boaters through Labor Day.  For more information, call (231) 894-9689.

All anglers can fish for free June 8 and 9.

As part of Free Fishing Weekend, the state is waiving all fishing license fees for residents and out-of-state visitors. Free Fishing Weekend applies to all species of fish in inland waters and Michigan’s Great Lakes.  All other fishing regulations still apply.

Michigan is home to more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, over 11,037 inland lakes and 36,350 miles of rivers and streams.  To find inland lakes in your area, click here.

Rockford Relay For Life raised $318,000 for the American Cancer Society, making it one of the most successful fundraisers in the state.

Other West Michigan communities are doing their part.  During the Wyoming-Grandville Relay For Life on May 10, participants raised at least $54,857.  That same day, participants in the Grand Haven-Spring Lake Relay For Life collected at least $45,984 for the American Cancer Society.  Runners and walkers in East Grand Rapids raised at least $56,531 during their Relay For Life May 17.  On May 18, the Relay For Life of White Lake generated at least $43,211 for the American Cancer Society, while Relay For Life of Comstock Park raised at least $42,815.

And don’t count local colleges out.  In April, Grand Valley State University raised at least $85,263 during its Relay For Life, Western Michigan University collected at least $32,083 and Aquinas College raised $5,670.

Michigan's Adventure opens for the season with a new ride

MUSKEGON, Mich.--  A lakeshore attraction is officially open for the season.

Michigan’s Adventure opened its gates May 22. The amusement park features a new attraction this year—Lakeside Gliders—which is an interactive flying ride for all ages.  Riders of Lakeside Gliders can control their flying vehicle with a moveable front wing as it picks up speed.

Michigan’s Adventure ticket prices range from $10 to $30.  On May 26 and May 27, the park will offer free admission to members of the Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserve.

The water portion of the amusement park, WildWater Adventure Waterpark, opens May 26. 

Muskegon County to host free County Parks Day May 4

The Muskegon County Board of Commissioners invites you to visit Muskegon County Pioneer Park or Twin Lake Park on May 4 for free.

This inaugural event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and runs through 4 p.m.

Pioneer Park is a 145 acre park offers camping, swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, tennis, softball, basketball and volleyball. The park is filled with a variety of mixed oak, maple, white pine and hemlock pine trees. Pioneer is Muskegon’s  largest and most popular park. Pioneer Park is located on Lake Michigan and has over 2,000 feet of white sandy beach frontage. The park is located close to Michigan's Adventure amusement park, USS Silversides WWI Submarine Museum, art museums, theaters, summer festivals and other Muskegon County attractions. United Methodist Church of the Dunes Hosting Haiti Bike Ride

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. Cycling enthusiasts are being urged to register now for “Haiti Ride 2013”.

The annual bike ride raises funds to support villagers and residents in the island nation of Haiti, as it continues its rebuilding efforts in the wake of the 2010 quake, three recent hurricanes and cholera epidemic.  United Methodist Church of the Dunes (UMCD), at 717 Sheldon Road in Grand Haven, will serve again as the host site for the bike tour.

Haiti Ride 2013 will be held from Wednesday, June 12 through Saturday, June 15.
