MDOT to replace US-31 BR (Colby Street) bridge over White Lake Pathway

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that the 2011 construction and maintenance program will improve approximately 115 miles of pavement, and repair or replace 19 bridges on state trunklines in west Michigan's Grand Region. The Grand Region serves eight counties: Ionia, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa, which account for about 12 percent of all traffic in Michigan.

Colby Street Study

Colby Street Study

City leaders in Whitehall have approved money to study issues related to Colby Street. The work will be done by The Walkable and Livable Communities Institute from Washington D.C..

The study will look at public safety, parking, traffic, street design, and other topics related to the U.S. 31 Business Route.

It will cost the city $3,800, and may happen in July.

MDOT wants work planned for Colby Street to include four-lanes of traffic. Some downtown business owners and residents want  the state's plan to include street parking on the south-side of the street. Addition street parking could mean one-lane of traffic would be eliminated.
